Simplified BFS design requirements

What is changing? Effective June 1st, 2025, all apps undergoing Built for Shopify (BFS) review, will be graded against the simplified BFS design requirements.

Why are we making this change? This change is in response to feedback from our partner community. The previous 104 BFS design requirements (spread across 13 design sub-categories) were overwhelming, and could be challenging for Partners to interpret correctly.

The goal with this change was to streamline and simplify the BFS design requirements while still ensuring that the BFS program continues to be a high-water mark for overall app quality. There are now only 19 BFS design requirements spread across 3 design sub-categories.

What action is required? If you are planning to submit your app for BFS review or your existing BFS app is coming up for renewal, please make sure that your app adheres to the simplified BFS design requirements.
